Applications for
Overseas Conference Leave grants (OCL) may be submitted to Schools
These will normally be:
- Awarded to staff holding a continuing appointment, or contract of at least
12 months duration, at a fraction of 0.5 or greater.
- Available to BusLaw Higher Degree by Research candidates once per candidature,
with the supporting recommendation of their supervisor for the timing and
content of the conference in terms of progressing the candidature.
- Available to staff enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research at Deakin or
elsewhere only if the paper to be presented is directly related to their thesis.
- Limited to one grant per person per year, for use on travel or other conference
related costs.
- Pro-rated for staff who are jointly presenting a paper with a co-author
and who are both applying for OCL. (i.e. 2 staff will share one grant).
- Subject to the availability of funding.
The grants will be:
- For presentation of a paper at a research conference of national or international
significance held overseas (New Zealand is regarded as a domestic location).

- For full papers which will be published in the Proceedings of the conference,
or preferably in a refereed journal, and meeting the Higher Education Research Data Collection requirements for refereed publications.
- Conditional upon recipients reporting to the School on the conference
and outcomes within 14 days of return from the conference.
- Conditional upon recipients reporting publications resulting from the conference
for the publications collection.
Note: international significance of the conference would normally be indicated
by:
- The presence of international speakers.
- International reputation of the organising committee/s.
- A panel of international experts from a number of institutions acting as
reviewers.
