Pass Conceded Grades (Students enrolled in a Faculty of Business and Law Course)
The criteria for eligibility is in the Assessment (Higher Education Courses) - Procedure
Pass Conceded grade may be awarded where the following conditions are met:
- the unit mark in question is 45% or greater and less than 50%
- the student has not failed any hurdle requirement for the unit
- the student must, in the judgment of the Faculty Academic Progress and Discipline Committee, have a generally good academic record with the exception of the unit for which the award of a Pass Conceded grade is being considered
In its determination of what constitutes a "generally good academic record" the FAPDC will normally consider:
- the student's weighted average mark (WAM) which must be >50;
- assessed unit grades only; units for which a student has been granted advanced standing will not form part of this determination;
- the student's overall performance in relation to academic progress. In this regard the FAPDC will consider all evidence of unsatisfactory academic progress including any warnings, restrictions and exclusions imposed on the student by the FAPDC and any subsequent Academic Appeals Committee determination;
- any allegation of academic misconduct found to be proven against the student concerned, including the outcome of any subsequent Academic Appeals Committee determination;
- assessed unit grades only; any non assessed grades (XN,WN) on a student's record will not form part of this determination;
- any extenuating circumstances of which the Faculty has notice, including applications for special consideration in assessment;
- an application for a Pass Conceded only after student has completed a sufficient number of units to allow a determination of a generally good academic record
- the student has not been awarded a Pass Conceded grade for any other unit in a course or articulated program of courses.
The Faculty Academic Progress and Discipline Committee must consult with heads of schools and course teams when deciding whether to award a Pass Conceded grade.
Note:
In some cases, eg LLB, professional recognition requirements will make a Pass Conceded grade inappropriate even where all criteria have been met.
