Deakin Medical School
The Deakin Medical School was officially opened by then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in May 2008. As Victoria’s first rural and regional medical school, it aims to train new doctors who are skilled and motivated to pursue a career in rural and regional areas, either as specialists or general practitioners. The Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery course is taught in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art building.
Geelong Technology Precinct
The Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is home to the Geelong Technology Precinct, a State Government initiative, which provides research and development capabilities and opportunities for university-industry partnerships and new enterprises in the region.
Management Centre
The Deakin Management Centre, located on a hill behind the campus, provides
first-class facilities and accommodation for conferences and conventions.
Landscaped parklands
Set in parkland of mainly native trees, the campus is encircled by a 5 kilometre
walking track which passes extensively landscaped gardens, lawns, lakes and avenues.
Sport and recreation
Staff and students have access to an impressive range of sporting and recreation
facilities including a large fully-equipped gymnasium and weights training
room, basketball and squash courts.
Facilities area also available for badminton, basketball, indoor soccer,
karate, netball, squash, table tennis, volleyball, aerobics, full-size billiard
tables and modern well-equipped weight and circuit-training, tennis courts,
multi-purpose ovals and sports fields including football, rugby, soccer,
baseball diamonds, a turf wicket and a golf driving range.
Food, wine and personal services
Other facilities include a food court with health and Asian foods, bar,
licensed bistro, restaurant, ATM, travel agency and an historic chapel.
The campus shop provides a postal service, dry cleaning, groceries, papers
and gifts, and the campus bookshop provides academic and general books, stationery
and computer software.
The campus is within walking distance of a large shopping centre with restaurants,
banks and a cinema complex.
