The position

The Professor will provide outstanding academic and research leadership in the area of marine science, particularly in biological oceanography and/or continental shelf ecosystems, and promote the School within relevant academic and professional communities in Australia and internationally. The appointee will initiate and contribute to School and Faculty research, teaching and program development and entrepreneurial activity in the area of marine science. The appointee will contribute to service activities locally and internationally particularly in relation to research partnerships and will champion the strategic directions of the School, the Faculty and the University.

The appointee is responsible for:

  • The provision of academic leadership.
  • Foster research activities in marine science across the Faculty and University, and in so doing contribute to scholarly publication, the generation of research and commercial funding and the supervision of honours and postgraduate research students.
  • Promote the discipline of marine science by forging strong relationships with professional groups, government and non-government organisations, overseas institutions, other academics, industry and the wider community.
  • Develop and manage novel and targeted teaching programs in marine science and make recommendations to the Head of School on matters of program and course development, maintenance and delivery, to ensure curriculum quality and relevance.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and administration of the School and Faculty, including undertaking significant line management responsibility for the marine science discipline.

The Associate Professor will provide outstanding academic and research leadership in the area of marine science, particularly biological oceanography and/or continental shelf ecosystems. The appointee will promote the Faculty within the academic and professional communities in Australia and internationally. The appointee will contribute to the Faculty’s teaching, research, program development and service at a national and international level.

The appointee is responsible for:

  • The provision of academic leadership.
  • Teaching, research, scholarly publication and the generation of research funding in the area of marine science.
  • Program and course development in marine science, maintenance and delivery, ensuring relevance and curriculum quality.
  • The ongoing development of the School and Faculty, including the establishment and nurturing of industry links, partnerships and local and international recruitment.
  • Supervising honours and postgraduate students, ensuring successful and timely completions.
  • Contributing to the administration of the School, Faculty and University.
