The University may require staff to work at other locations outside their primary place of work.

Position Purpose

The Head of School will provide leadership in the integrated development and delivery of the teaching, research and other academic activities of the School and will be responsible for promoting its distinctive contribution to postgraduate education and research and its engagement with the business community.

The Head of School will ensure effective leadership and management of all operational aspects of the School together with enhancing research, generating external research income, industry engagement, international collaboration and enhancing the employability of graduates.

Deakin University is committed to continuous quality improvement in all its activities. Heads of Schools contribute to this through their leadership in relation to improvements in:

  • teaching and learning (CEQ and AGS outcomes and outcomes in the University's own internal teaching evaluation instrument - SETU) and the broader Deakin student experience;
  • research (publications in high quality journals, successful external research grant applications, research of high impact and effective PhD supervision);
  • course development and renewal;
  • student recruitment (domestic fee paying students and international students);
  • relationships with business and government and with the relevant professional bodies and the wider community; and
  • the recruitment and development of a group of high quality, dedicated academic and professional staff who are, in turn, able to contribute to the continuous quality improvement of Deakin University.

The appointee will contribute to service activities locally and internationally particularly in relation to student recruitment and will champion the strategic directions of the School, the Faculty and the University.

The successful applicant will be appointed to the position of Professor in the discipline area in which he/she is involved and the nomenclature of the position will reflect that area. The appointment to the Head
