Leave and public holidays

Leave

The University provides a range of leave options to support staff members to balance their work commitments with their personal responsibilities.

In summary, staff receive the following key entitlements (pro-rata for a part-time staff member):

  • Recreation leave – 20 days per year
  • Sick leave – 15 days per year
  • Long service leave – 9.1 weeks after 7 years continuous service and a further 6.5 days per year of continuous service after that

The University recognises service from other organisations for the purposes of sick leave and long service leave in certain circumstances. For further information please read the Recognition of Prior Service procedure.

Public Holidays and University holidays

The University is open for business on the following public holidays: Labour Day, Queen's Birthday and Melbourne Cup Day.

In lieu of working these public holidays all continuing and fixed term staff receive up to 5 paid University holidays to be taken during the specified University closedown (between Christmas and New Year).
