Welcome to the CMFI

Xungai Wang - Director of the CMFI

The Centre for Material and Fibre Innovation (CMFI) is a multidisciplinary research group with over 100 research students and staff. The Centre is a research intensive unit within the Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (ITRI). Academics in the Centre also contribute to the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Engineering and Science.

Our mission is to be recognised both nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence in advanced materials processing and performance.

Our core expertise lies in metals and light metals, fibres and fibrous materials, composites and polymers, bio and nano materials. We have close working relationships with both local and international companies and research institutions in relevant areas. Research in the Centre is supported advanced modelling, pilot scale processing and state-of-the-art characterisation facilities.

Our research students and staff come from 17 different countries, and enjoy regular social events such as table tennis, cricket, badminton, and traditional Australian BBQ!
