Joanne completed her BA/LLB (Hons) degree at La Trobe University in 2000. She then worked at the Supreme Court of Victoria Court of Appeal, first as a researcher for the judges and then as Associate to Justice Alex Chernov. Upon completing her G. Dip in Legal Practice and being admitted to practice in 2003 she returned to La Trobe University in 2004 with PhD candidature. Her doctoral thesis examined ‘Work Practices and Culture in Major Australian Law Firms’.

Her research interests are the Legal Profession, Discrimination Law, Legal Ethics and Feminist Legal Theory. She is a member of the Research Committee on the Sociology of Law Legal Profession Group (International Working Group on Comparative Study of Legal Professions).
