Dr Asim Bhatti is a senior academic at Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), Deakin University. Dr Bhatti has published more than 90 research papers, authored 2 and edited 3 books, with h-index 9 and i10-index 9 (Google Scholar). He is currently in the process of editing 4th book on emerging trends in neuroengineering, going to be published by Springer in 2016. He has submitted over 60 peer reviewed technical reports and is recipient of number of awards including prestigious Australian Endeavour Postdoctoral Fellowship (2011), Finalist of Smart Technology Category of the Smart Geelong Network Researcher of the Year Awards (2010, 2009), Runner-up SAE Automotive Engineering Excellence Awards (2010) and won best student paper award 2002.
His current research activities involve establishment of Neuroengineering, a new multi-disciplinary field of research at Deakin Univeristy in collaboration with researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology (GA, USA), Mayo Clinic (MN, USA), University of Melbourne (Australia) and Australian Animal Health Laboratory (CSIRO, Australia). This research involves understanding how the brain works and why does it stop working? Characterization of neural networks in response to stimulation including drugs, electrical/optical stimulation and viral infections. In addition, investigation of neurophysiology of insects in the presence of different viral infections to understand the patterns and mechanism behind vector born diseases.
