Biography

Biography

Dr. Rebecca J. Yang is a Lecturer in Construction Management at Deakin University. Prior to this, she was a post-doctoral research fellow at Deakin University, and research associate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University where she obtained her PhD in 2010. Her main research interests focus on sustainable project development, which includes energy consumption, user behaviour, risk and stakeholder management, green building assessment, and waste management. Dr Yang is an expert in Social Network Analysis. Dr Yang has been involved in stakeholder analysis consultation in five real-life infrastructure and urban renewal projects, and she is a Chief Investigator in several research projects. Dr Yang has published many papers in leading international journals.  Dr Yang’s has also undertaken research in learning and teaching and her teaching philosophy is linking theory with practice and focusing on improving student learning outcomes and capabilities development. Dr Yang has taught different subjects in undergraduate level with excellent feedbacks from students and peers. Prior to her academic career, Rebecca worked as a quantity surveyor in Singapore.

Dr. Rebecca Yang and her coauthor (Prof. Patrick Zou, University of Canberra) have won the “CIOB Best International Research Paper Award” in the CIB SB13 Sustainable Building and Construction 2013 Conference, held recently in Coventry UK, (3-5 July), for her paper titled “Households’ perceptions on sustainable home behaviour and improvements in Australia”.

Teaching Interests

Dr Yang’s teaching philosophy is linking theory with practice and being focused on improving student learning outcomes and capabilities.


Her blended (or hybrid) teaching methods combine and integrate web-based online approaches with face-to-face, classroom learning. She also uses of cutting-edge educational technology and software, such as Prezi, MediaWiKi, Elive, D2L etc., to encourage student participation.

Her main research interests focus on sustainable project development, which includes energy consumption, user behaviour, risk and stakeholder management, green building assessment, and waste management. Dr Yang is also an expert in Social Network Analysis.
