Committees

Standing committees of Council

To facilitate the fulfilment of Council's obligations, Council has established the following standing committees:

  • Audit and Risk Committee
  • Campus Planning Committee
  • Chancellor's Advisory Committee (and its various configurations: the Honorary Degrees Committee, the Human Resources Advisory Committee, the Nominations Committee, the Senior Salaries Committee)
  • Finance and Business Affairs Committee
  • Legislation Committee
  • University Appeals Committee.

Committees' powers and responsibilities are determined by Council and set out in terms of reference. Committee terms of reference can be accessed online by:

  1. Visiting www.deakin.edu.au/council/committees/main.php
  2. Clicking on a standing committee
  3. Clicking on the terms of reference link to open or download.

Committees must undertake and report to Council on the responsibilities set out in their terms of reference and may not make determinations on matters which are beyond the scope of those powers.

Committee members, who comprise elected and nominated members from within and outside the University, have expertise relevant to Committee terms of reference.

Standing committees assist Council by:

  • providing detailed and expert information and advice about matters relating to Council functions and responsibilities
  • allowing Council to exercise judgement about Committee recommendations and advice at a level one remove from the decision, thereby enhancing objectivity.
