Learn how to design, construct and project-manage the building of cities and the structures of civilisation. Studying this course will develop you into a design-driven, innovative and entrepreneurial engineering professional with skills for a rapidly changing and ever-evolving industry.
I learnt about building stable concrete framework with reinforcements according to the Australian Standards, which gives a taste of the real world scenarios.

Effect of residual stress on the bending of aluminium
Skin passing or temper rolling introduces a strain gradient through the thickness of the sheet which, in turn, results in a residual stress profile through the thickness. The results show qualitatively how the material is softened in bending after rolling and demonstrate that this is partly due to the residual stress gradients in the material.
Deakin's Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) is accredited by Engineers Australia. This accreditation gives our degrees international recognition, allowing graduates to practice as professional engineers in many countries around the world.
Leading the way in engineering
Deakin engineering is ranked highly by Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA), a national research evaluation framework. ERA awarded Deakin the highest ranking possible of 5 in the categories of Materials Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering were awarded a ranking of 4 (classed above world standard), highlighting Deakin’s strength in engineering related research.
Our research excellence helps to inform our teaching curriculum to ensure undergraduate students are aware of the developments that will shape the engineering industries of the future.
Our graduates get jobs. With an international skills shortage in the engineering industry, Deakin graduates are in demand both here in Australia and further abroad. Not only that, employers seek out Deakin graduates for their forward thinking, innovative and entrepreneurial qualities.
As a civil engineering graduate, you can gain employment with:
- consulting firms
- government bodies and departments
- water authorities
- public works.
