Deakin's software engineering courses have been designed in response to industry demand for innovative software engineers who can design and develop complex software systems for the modern world – where software not only needs to interact with other software systems and users, but also with the environment itself. 

As a graduate of this course you will be well-equipped to find employment in diverse areas of software systems engineering, working to develop and implement state-of-the-art smart devices, systems and application frameworks for industries such as smart infrastructure, health, agriculture, manufacturing and transport, as well as specialist research and management roles.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate (your first degree)

An undergraduate degree is generally completed between two to four years, depending on the pattern of study and any credit for prior learning you may have. Associate degrees, bachelor’s and bachelor’s with honours are all undergraduate degrees.

Many of my past students' projects are linked to industry projects and have led to employment opportunities or ongoing postgraduate studies.

Project-oriented Design-based Learning

Project-oriented Design-based Learning is a key feature of our software engineering degree. From day one and throughout your degree, you'll develop ideas and design products through hands-on and experiential learning. You'll work on industry projects that will meet real-world needs and equip you for your future career.

Modern facilities with the latest technology

We regularly invest in our facilities so you can access the latest software and technologies in fully equipped computer labs. The new Robotics and Internet of Things (RIoT) studio has the latest in computing, robotics and cyber-physical systems. You can also access specialised software such as professional development platforms, industry-standard modelling and animation packages.

Industry experience in every IT course

In addition to the industry experience you develop in your course, you'll be able to undertake an internship. These internships apply your learning from the classroom in a practical setting, while counting towards your degree. You'll experience the work environment and develop valuable professional networks before you graduate.
