Add an international aspect to your degree to further your career opportunities. China is one of Australia’s biggest trading partners and Mandarin Chinese is the official language in the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan and Singapore and widely used in community groups in Hong Kong (SAR, China), South-East Asia, North America and elsewhere.
An undergraduate degree is generally completed between two to four years, depending on the pattern of study and any recognition of prior learning you may have. Associate degrees, bachelor and bachelor with honours are all undergraduate degrees.
Research degrees are research based master’s or PhD programs that focus on a single area of expertise. They provide students the opportunity to carry out highly specialised research under expert supervision.

Take the opportunity to travel overseas and try out your language skills with native speakers. In-country language programs are available if you’re studying Chinese as a major sequence. You'll study the Chinese language and culture in its own environment for six weeks while gaining course credit.
There are international opportunities ranging from 2 weeks to 12 months. Be it big or small, take the chance to study overseas.

In addition to our language diplomas, languages can be studied as a major or minor sequence within the Bachelor of Arts and as a major within the Bachelor of International Studies and Bachelor of International Studies (Global Scholar). On top of this, a language may be able to be studied across many of Deakin’s other courses.
By the time you’ve finished your undergraduate degree, you may have developed a few interesting thoughts of your own you’d like to look into in more detail. A higher degree by research could be for you.
