Indigenous Access Scholarships

The primary aim of the Indigenous Access Scholarship (IAS) is to improve higher education access for Indigenous people who need to relocate from regional and remote areas, through a one-off payment to take up higher education undergraduate courses.

Eligibility

All Deakin University scholarships have eligibility criteria. 

To be eligible you must be:

  • an Australian citizen
  • an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • be a commencing student enrolled for the first time at Deakin University in your first year of your undergraduate bachelor degree in Trimester 1 2017 in a Commonwealth supported place
  • be enrolled full time unless there are exceptional circumstances preventing full time study
  • not be holding a bachelor degree or higher-level award unless such award is a prerequisite of your current undergraduate course of study
  • have moved from your rural or regional home location to undertake located study at Deakin
  • have not previously received payment for an IAS
  • be in receipt of a means-tested Centrelink benefit, or able to demonstrate that you have a personal or family taxable income below the HECS-HELP repayment threshold, depending on independence status.

Selection criteria

Your application will be assessed based on the information you provide.  Consider providing information about your:

  • Responsibility for others.
  • Financial, education or social disadvantage.
  • The degree of your involvement in your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • Your disability status.
