Eligibility

All Deakin University scholarships have eligibility criteria.

To be eligible you must: 

  • be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • be a commencing student enrolled for the first time at Deakin University in your first year of your undergraduate bachelor's degree in Trimester 1 2017 in a Commonwealth Supported Place  
  • be enrolled full time unless there are exceptional circumstances preventing full-time study 
  • not be holding a bachelor's degree or higher-level award unless such award is a prerequisite to your current undergraduate course of study 
  • receive a means-tested Centrelink benefit, or able to show you have a personal or family taxable income below the HECS-HELP repayment threshold, depending on independence status.

Your application will be assessed based on the information you provide. We'll be considering the following things when we read your application. Consider providing information about your:

  • How involved you are in your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • Your financial, education or social disadvantage.
  • Your responsibility for others.
  • Your disability status.

  • evidence of your financial hardship
  • evidence of any medical condition
  • evidence of any other disadvantage you are experiencing

Finding out if you're successful

Your application will be assessed and ranked based on the details you provide and your supporting documentation. 

You will know the outcome of your application within six weeks after the closing date.
