Indigenous Academic Performance Scholarship

To be eligible, you need to be currently studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Deakin University, enrolled in the second or subsequent year of your degree, and have achieved academic progress.

Eligibility

All Deakin University scholarships have eligibility criteria.

Prospective candidates should ensure they meet all criteria before submitting their application.

To be eligible you must be:

    • an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
    • enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Deakin University in Trimester 2 2017
    • enrolled full time in a Commonwealth supported place unless there are exceptional circumstances preventing full time study
    • in receipt of a Centrelink benefit or can demonstrate that you have a personal or family taxable income below the HECS-HELP repayment threshold depending on independence status.

Consideration will be given to students experiencing financial disadvantage, and/or students from regional and remote areas..

Selection criteria

The following will be taken into consideration when applications are assessed:

  • the degree of your involvement in your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community
    financial, education or social disadvantage
    responsibility for others
    disability status.

Your application will be assessed and ranked based on the information you provide in your application and supporting documentation.

How to apply

You can apply for this scholarship directly through our Course and Scholarship Applicant Portal (visit our applicant portal and apply) or complete a paper based application available from the Institute of Koorie Education.

Supporting documentation

As part of the application process you will also be required to provide supporting documentation.  Late or incomplete documentation will not be accepted.

The supporting documentation required includes evidence of:

    • hardship
    • of any statement you have provided in your online application (such as residence in a regional or remote area; any other disadvantage you are experiencing).
