Study commitment

Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Content

This unit will consist of online, theory and practical components. It will focus on Secondary health and physical education discipline and curriculum. Specifically, students will further develop their understanding of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.

There will be a focus on applying knowledge of the physical education content area/curriculum, formative assessment strategies, and assessment data to design instructionally aligned learning sequences and lesson plans. Pre-service teachers will also have the opportunity to organise classroom activities and provide clear directions when teaching physical education and use feedback from teachers and supervisors to improve teaching practice.

Hurdle requirement

Professional experience is a requirement of the Victorian Institution of Teaching for the preparation of teachers. In this unit you will complete 15 days of the required 80 days for the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education. Satisfactory completion of the professional experience is required in order to pass this unit.
