Study commitment

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus

6 x topic modules delivered online across the 11 weeks of the trimester, with some modules across multiple weeks (1 hour each week); 1 x 2 hour seminar each week; 1 x 3 hour practical experience each week.

Content

This unit aims to provide students with the fundamental skills relevant to applied sport science. Students will learn techniques required for testing physical performance in an applied sports science setting, quantifying and profiling physical capacities such as endurance and sprint performance, and skills that are specific to training load monitoring for team sport players.

Topics covered will include the role of the Sport Scientist, performance analysis, sports performance testing, performance management, injury identification and management, sports coaching practice, and training and preparation.
