| Study commitment | Simulated (software-based) environment students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. Industry placement students will be required to complete between 112 to 160 hours of workplace activities and professional experience (placement) with an approved, discipline-aligned company or organisation within a 4 to 12 weeks period. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |

Content
SRM777 provides students with an opportunity to acquire soft or interpersonal skills and gain a better understanding of construction workplace practice. It offers two options for students to complete the unit. Students will participate in either simulated (software) or industry placement construction environments. The study commitment, assessments and other requirements may vary between these options. However, both options allow students to work collegially in discipline-relevant roles to build work-ready pre-professional capabilities. Participation in simulated or real-world construction environments enables students to apply their learnings and acquire new knowledge and skills based upon principles of adult learning and action-learning exercises. In addition to technical skills, the unit helps students develop soft skills such as communication, negotiation, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and strategic thinking, which are crucial for their employability and job readiness. In reporting on their experiences, students reflect on their experiences and demonstrate how participation in simulated or real-world construction environments has provided an applied form of learning and prepared them for the next stage of study and work.
