The purpose of this community based internship, is to allow students an opportunity to gain a professional work placement with an approved host organisation for a 100-120 hour placement to facilitate learning. Students will learn in and with the community, with the intention of then critically reflecting on their placement, their graduate attributes and employability competencies through a continuous assessment process – a portfolio which includes an in-depth critical reflection.

The placement will tend to be project focused so as to further the interests of both the student and the host organisation. However, the placement it is not about ‘work experience’, it is a placement with significant educational learning outcomes linked to employability skills, with a particular emphasis on the development of communication and co-ordination skills, and the application and development of the lifelong learning competency. These learning outcomes will be evidenced in different ways and at different levels and stages through the assessment pieces that link together to form a Placement Portfolio.

Written assignment 1 (a pre-placement assignment; analysis and goal setting with reference to learning from the first placement) 1500 words 20%, Written assignment 2 (a reflective placement portfolio) 3000-4000 words 40%, Written assignment 3 (a post placement report: before and after resume, a narrative summary and comparison of the two placements and business letter) 3000-4000 words 40%
