Content

This unit introduces Honours students to the art of research design in Writing, Literature and Children’s Literature, and Gender and Sexuality Studies. Students learn about the elements of research design and their functions and how to bring them together to create their own unique project. The unit covers a range of relevant research approaches drawn from the creative arts, humanities and social sciences, with an emphasis on creative practice-led research, qualitative research, and textual/discursive analysis.

Topics to be addressed in this unit include:

  • What is research? What is the research process?
  • The elements of research design
  • Finding, reviewing and engaging others' research
  • Designing feasible research questions or research aims
  • How to collect, generate, record and/or analyse data
  • Ethical issues in research
  • Writing research and/or funding proposals and reports
