Content
This multi-disciplinary unit teaches strategies for communicating research outcomes, through a variety of written, verbal, creative and media forms, to a range of public, academic and professional audiences. It is suitable for researchers working in traditional and non-traditional areas. Students are expected to draw upon the research topic and processes of their own thesis as the focus material for their learning.
The unit aims to instil a reflective understanding of research communication for both short-term and long-term advantage: students will be equipped to select and combine research communication strategies to increase the immediate impact of their research (including that of their thesis) and to scaffold their career development and future visibility and reputation as research communicators.
Practical advice will be provided for engaging productively with the gatekeepers of research communication outlets such as editors and peer reviewers and for dealing with the inevitable disappointments—as well as the successes—of a research vocation.
