Content

In their selected specialism, students will engage in the theoretical and practical application of a range of arts discipline forms within various social and cultural contexts. The emphasis will be on ways of implementing these in arts discipline specific lessons that also incorporate assessment and record keeping strategies. Within a studio and computer lab environment, students will have practical experience with a range of techniques, technologies and processes relevant to their chosen arts discipline. The outcomes of these practical explorations will provide students with teaching and learning support materials that may be incorporated into the development of arts curricula, for teaching within the Arts and in the broader curriculum. Students develop experiential knowledge and understandings that will assist them in designing and implementing arts programs within current State/National curricula guidelines and informed by selected international arts education best practice.

ULO1

Develop a full understanding of current educational practice in a particular strand of The Arts (Visual art, Dance, Drama, Music or Media arts)

ULO2

Discuss ongoing curriculum issues such as inclusivity and multiculturalism, the introduction of e-learning technologies and assessment and evaluation processes within the Arts in the primary school

ULO3

Demonstrate further knowledge in one of the disciplines of Visual art, Dance, Drama, Music or Media arts in the selection of relevant content when devising learning experiences for primary students

ULO4

Design and develop a lesson sequence in the selected Arts education strand for implementation in primary schools using knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies

ULO5

Locate examples of current best practice in the selected arts education strand and critically evaluate the effectiveness of these processes in order to selectively incorporate them into their own teaching strategies

ULO6

Demonstrate a knowledge of and skills in the use of information, communication and digital technologies in the selected arts area, and

Practise strategies for teaching of the selected arts education strand and for implementing assessment and evaluation criteria where possible during Professional Experience placement
