Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - online unit enrolment:

Online independent and collaborative learning activities including 10 x 2-hours scheduled online seminars and supported by online materials together with a compulsory collaborative presentation of inquiry at an online conference. 

Time engaged in learning activities is expected to total a combined equivalent of 8-10 hours a week. This includes engagement with materials, responses to tasks, regular forum posting and responding to others, scheduled seminars and independent study. 

Content

This unit explores the implications for teaching in an increasingly globalised world through issues such as internationalisation, interdependence, social justice and human rights, identity and cultural diversity, peace building and conflict resolution, and sustainable futures. Students review the literature on a selected issue, and critically evaluate a resource designed to address the concept and relevant curriculum. Students also research and develop resources and teaching approaches that respond to the diverse learning needs of a selected a classroom context and for a particular cohort, for example, refugee, EAL, or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. An aim is to develop reflective practitioners who understanding of the complexities and considerations for teaching in a diverse range of educational contexts.

This unit will assist with developing practical knowledge of how the International Baccalaureate programmes are designed, interpreted and implemented.
