Typical study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - online unit enrolment:

Time engaging in learning activities is expected to total a combined equivalent of 8-10 hours per week. This includes engagement with materials, responses to tasks, regular forum posting and responding to others, scheduled synchronous online discussions and independent study during non-placement teaching weeks (approx. 6 - 9 weeks).

It is highly recommended that you attend scheduled synchronous discussions in the unit site throughout the trimester.

In-person attendance requirements:

Students who are completing professional experience (placements) are not required to attend lectures or scheduled synchronous sessions during the professional experience (placement).

 

Content

This unit aims to prepare students for teaching, learning and assessment in Health education at senior secondary level including transition to senior years and vocational and applied health curricula. With a focus on literacy and numeracy, and assessment in health education, the unit focuses on engaging with state and territory based senior health curricula to plan teaching and assessment for senior learners. The areas covered include teaching at senior secondary level, the relationship of senior health to the HPE propositions (focusing on critical health literacy and inquiry learning), teaching strategies, assessment practices and requirements, and regulations of teaching at senior secondary/post compulsory level.
