Students commencing in 2020 must be enrolled in course D304, E760, E763 or E765

Prerequisite:

D304 students must have passed 24 credit points of study at levels 1, 2 & 3 with a minimum WAM of 60%

Students enrolled in course E763 or E765 commencing 2020, must pass unit EEE754, plus 1 unit from EEE755, EEE756, EPR731, EPR751, EPR781

Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

In person attendance requirements
Students who are completing professional experience (placements) are not required to attend classes or scheduled synchronous sessions during the placement.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - on-campus unit enrolment:

4 x 6.5-hour intensive seminars across the trimester (in non-placement weeks)

Time engaging in learning activities is expected to total a combined equivalent of 8-10 hours per week. This includes engagement with materials, responses to tasks and independent study.

Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - online unit enrolment:

4 x 1.5-hour seminars across the trimester (in non-placement weeks and non-intensive weeks)

Time engaging in learning activities is expected to total a combined equivalent of 8-10 hours per week. This includes engagement with materials, responses to tasks, regular forum posting and responding to others, scheduled synchronous online discussions and independent study during non-placement teaching weeks (approx. 6-9 weeks).

It is highly recommended that you attend scheduled synchronous discussions in the unit site throughout the trimester.

Content

This unit focuses on the teaching and learning of science in practical activity situations, the role of digital technology in the science classroom and the affordances to learning science through student engagement in informal settings.

This unit also has a particular focus on critiquing and developing resources and informal learning situations, informed by contemporary research literature, to enhance the teaching and learning of science.
