Content

In this unit students will build on and extend their foundations from previous studies in HMO203 in the physical and biomedical sciences underpinning optometric practice to a more complex level. Students will engage in further problem-based learning cases drawn from simple and common optometric conditions particularly those associated with developmental and refractive orders of vision. Lectures, practical and tutorials will be offered in support of the problem-based sessions. Some cases in ocular disease and therapy and systemic disorders of vision will also be covered. The physical and biomedical sciences will include anatomy, physiology, optical physics, pharmacology, pathology, immunology and microbiology.

Assessment

Written assignment (3000 words) 37.5%, progress tests (2 x 1 hour) 25%, integrated case examinations (2 x 1.5 hours each) 37.5%
