Prerequisite: | For courses: D381, D387: Must pass all of HNN215, HNN217, HNN222 HNN227, HNN318, and one of HNN319 or HNN329. For course D355: Must pass all of HNN215, HNN217, HNN222 HNN227, HNN318, and one unit in HNN319, HNN329 and one of HNM311, HNM331. Typical study commitment: | Students will spend on average 300 hours over the trimester undertaking synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning activities for this unit. This will include 20 hours synchronous learning activities and a 200-hour professional experience placement. Students will spend 12 hours undertaking guided asynchronous learning activities. |

Department of Health – Safety Screening Requirements - Police Record Check, Working With Children Check and Immunisation Status In accordance with the Department of Health policy, all students are required to undertake a Police Record Check prior to clinical placements in each calendar year of their course. In accordance with the Worker Screening Act 2020, all students are required to undertake a Working with Children Check at the commencement of their course. Students who fail to obtain a Police Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to the commencement of clinical placement will not be able to undertake clinical placement and this will impede progress in the course. Students are required to declare their immunisation status to satisfy the requirements of health organisations where they will be undertaking their clinical learning experience. A health organisation may refuse to accept a student for placement if the student’s immunisation status is not satisfactory to the health organisation. |
Content
This is a capstone unit and is the final unit in the Clinical Studies Cluster. In this unit students are provided with the opportunity to consolidate and extend knowledge and skills and apply them to a variety of situations.
Students will further develop skills in advanced communication techniques for safe and quality care, prioritisation of care, responding to patient deterioration, and managing patient symptoms.
During a five (5) week professional experience placement students will have the opportunity to further develop and apply relevant knowledge and skills learned in this unit and all previous units in preparation for the mindset of a registered nurse in a variety of health care settings.
