Campus students: 1 x 2 hour seminar each week and 1 hour of short presentations delivered online each week.

Cloud (online) students: 1 hour of short presentations delivered online each week. Optional attendance at a one day seminar to be held at Burwood (Melbourne) on one weekend during trimester.

Content

This unit introduces students to the field of physical activity and health. The unit begins by exploring the benefits of physical activity and risks of sedentary behaviour and then moves on to understand physical activity participation. In this regard, common theories of behaviour change are explored as are key correlates of physical activity participation. An introduction to physical activity interventions is provided as is an introduction to the importance of physical activity in the lives of specific population sub-groups including older adults, children and underserved populations. Throughout the unit, students are required to source and reflect on high quality evidence in particular to design an appropriate and safe physical activity program that addresses known barriers to participation and fosters adoption and maintenance.
