Content

In this unit students will revise and extend their understanding of the fundamentals of evidence-based practice and research methods, and apply these to occupational therapy practice. The unit builds on previous learning in HBS108 to enable the research of occupational therapy issues. It emphasises accountability in practice and the application of research findings to intervention. Topics addressed in the unit include: different ways of knowing; understanding and applying research approaches; personal and professional accountability; documenting and evaluating professional evidence; critical analysis of research findings and reporting and presenting research information. Students will refine their skills in articulating evidence-based questions, searching for evidence using library databases and critically appraising research data. Students will also research and present current best practice information relating to occupational therapy in various practice settings and will report their findings about approaches used in specific case scenarios. Teaching methods will include evidence based practice resource seminars, computer-based seminars and online modules.
