Typical study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - on-campus unit enrolment:

2 hours (lecture - on campus) - for 5 weeks.
1 hour (lecture -online) - for 5 weeks
3 hours (seminar - on campus) - for 5 weeks.

Please note that regular breaks will be given so as to reduce fatigue. Preparation and readiness to engage in group on-campus activities is required to succeed in this unit.

This unit runs outside of standard trimester dates. Therefore students in Intensive group 1 should expect to start prior to the commencement of Trimester 1.

This unit is taught intensively for 5 weeks.

Content

This unit focuses on leadership in healthcare practice, through planning an innovative project for occupational therapy practice. Learning draws on experiences previously gained through prior academic learning and practice education and links to transition to practice content in Trimester 2.

Topics include styles of leadership, relevance of OT theoretical models to project work, use of occupation-based processes to problem solve, reflection on personal approaches to leadership in clinical practice and clinical reasoning. Students will develop and design an innovation and evaluation project for a practice setting. Teaching will be online and face to face with highly interactive sessions.
