ContentThis unit introduces students to insurance, the insurance market and insurance law. The unit examines a range of areas including the concepts of risk and insurance, and the principal legislation governing insurance in Australia. Topics include: insurance in Australia; risk concepts and an introduction to risk management; the insurance mechanism; types of insurance policies; an introduction to underwriting; legal principles of insurance; the Insurance Contracts Act 1984; the Financial Services Reform Act 2001; and the Insurance Act 1973.
Written Assignment 3000-4000 words 40%, Examination 2 hours 60%, Hurdle requirement: achieve at least 50% of the marks available on the examination.
