2 x 1 hour per team meetings per week; Weeks 1 to 6 - 2 x 1 hour per week seminar; Weeks 8 to 10 - 1 x 3 hour practical work per week (Note: team meetings and practicals will not be scheduled in the University timetable but will be negotiated with team members and the unit chair by the end of week 1 of trimester). Compulsory campus attendance requirement for all students either at scheduled sessions on multiple days during the trimester or on a single scheduled day during Week 8. Typically Waurn Ponds (Geelong) enrolled students will attend the compulsory activities for this unit at scheduled sessions on multiple days during the trimester and Cloud (online) enrolled students will attend the compulsory activities for this unit on a single scheduled day during Week 8.
You will need to access substantial learning resources and experiences in CloudDeakin (Deakin’s online learning environment). Compliance with the Standards in computing, connectivity and student capability are a condition on your enrolment.
This unit will take a team project-based approach to understanding the role of the manufacturing process in controlling the quality and cost of a component. The impact of processing variables such as pressure, time and temperature in attaining specified property and quality requirements during the manufacture of commonly used materials will be examined.
Project proposals 30%, oral presentation 20%, project portfolio 50%. To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, compulsory attendance is required by all students to unit-specific activities at Waurn Ponds (Geelong). These unit-specific activities may be undertaken either at scheduled sessions on multiple days during the trimester or during a single day of unit-specific activities scheduled during Week 8.
