SEM406 - Advanced Modelling and Simulation
2017 unit information
2018: SEM406 will be offered in Trimester 2 only
|Enrolment modes:||Trimester 1: Waurn Ponds (Geelong), Cloud (online)|
Trimester 2: Waurn Ponds (Geelong), Cloud (online)
SEM327 and one unit from SEM302, SEM422, SED302
Campus: 2 x 1 hour classes per week, 1 x 2 hour seminar per week (CAD lab), 2 x 3 hour practicals per trimester (CAD lab).
This unit will study advanced aspects of modelling and simulation related to mechanical engineering. The unit will utilise and build upon the knowledge you have gained in your previous studies on material behaviour, dynamics, solid mechanics, and computer aided engineering. The main topics covered are: advanced modelling of mechanical dynamic systems, and non-linear finite element analysis. Via a project-based approach, you will develop fundamental understanding of these two key simulation areas, as well as the ability to use this knowledge for the analysis of real world problems. In the practical classes, students will also use experimental methods to provide context to and validation of the numerical analyses conducted during this unit. The mix of theoretical, numerical and experimental work will provide a good base for future career development in the advanced CAE area.
Project 1 (includes team report, team model and individual report) 40%, Project 2 (includes team oral presentation, team model and report and an individual report) 40%, theory-based assignment 20%.
