Content

The aim of the unit is to provide a basic introduction to CAE and its role in modern automotive product development. Topics to be addressed in this unit include: The role of CAE in product development: Target setting, optimisation, performance analysis and manufacturing analysis. Computer Aided Design (CAD): Solid modelling, data management and transfer and CAD modelling for CAE. Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Basic principles and applications, building models, boundary conditions, solvers and interpreting results. Multi-body dynamics (MBD): Basic principles and applications, building models, boundary conditions, solvers and interpreting results.

Assessment

Three assignments (40%, 30%, 30%)
