Content

This practical-based unit provides students with exposure to advanced technical skills applicable to industrial biotechnology. The focus of these practicals will be in (1) selection, culturing and fermentation techniques, (2) separation techniques, (3) analytical techniques, and (4) enzymatic analysis. This skill set is in demand in a range of sectors from healthcare, food and beverage, waste management and environment, chemicals and manufacturing industries. Students will learn the principles of good laboratory practice and will be expected to adhere to them during their practical work. Students will advance their written communication skills with the preparation of formal laboratory reports and will demonstrate their scientific expertise using valid forms of data visualisation and analysis.
