Typical study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - on-campus unit enrolment:

1 x 2 hour lecture for 8 weeks (weeks 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11), 1 x 1 hour seminar for 8 weeks (weeks 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11), Construction Industry Induction Card training: 1 x 3 hour campus seminar for 2 weeks (Weeks 4 and 5); Professional experience (field trip): 1 x 1 hour site walk (Week 8).

Content

SRT141 provides the foundations for developing and maintaining a safety culture on building sites and other workplaces.  Students will examine WorkCover requirements in accordance with the OH&S regulations and compliance codes following the Act of 2004, and occupational health and safety procedures and controls. Students will learn about all aspects of site safety and supervision of onsite operatives including with respect to site induction requirements and compliance requirements.  Students will undertake their Construction Industry Card training, which is mandatory for all employees in the construction industry, as part of this unit.

Note:  There will be a fee of no more than $200 per student to complete the training for the Construction Industry Induction Card training.

Hurdle requirement

To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must obtain the OH&S Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card) in this unit.
