After taking a gap year and travelling to Europe, I was a little apprehensive about coming to university as I had to move away from home and live in residence with people I had never met before. It was especially hard trying to get back into a lifestyle of managing life and study. But it was in residence that I made some of my best friends. These are people who have the same drive and passion which I possess, and we have always been able to help each other in regards to assignments and exam preparation in order to get the best grades possible.

Due to my love of sport, especially soccer, I joined the  Deakin University soccer team, the Deakin Dragons. This was also the first year that this team had played in the league, and I made some great friends through playing and socialising.

My second year at university was also spent in residence, but this time there was no apprehension at moving away from home and I couldn’t wait to come back to uni and live with my mates. I also was comfortable with  directing myself around the campus without getting lost on the way to class!

It was in this year that I was selected to become a committee member of DUCLS (Deakin University Commerce and Law Society). Through this I developed great relationships with the committee members of the respective societies across the other Deakin campuses, and also the staff of the Business and Law Faculty. I gained valuable experience in organising events and helping new students adapt to university life during the time I spent with DUCLS.

I also became a peer tutor in my second year, which allowed me to challenge myself  and help teach first-year students who needed some help with their studies. This opportunity allowed me to gain confidence and skills which will be of great assistance with the rest of my degree and further career.

Recently I have enrolled in, and completed, an intensive unit over Trimester 3. By doing this unit I have become friends with students from other campuses and developed relationships which will  hopefully last long into the future.
