Third year, Bachelor of Commerce
Geelong Waurn Ponds
'...university is about finding yourself and focusing on your future. Your time at Deakin is guaranteed to provide both while you enjoy the time of your life.'
Last year saw the beginning of my first year of university, studying a Bachelor of Commerce. The BCom is a very flexible course with numerous majors to select. My career path led me to enrol with the majors of accounting and quantitative business analysis.
The change to university life has been both challenging and fulfilling. After deciding to study at Deakin University, I had to move from the small rural town of Dunolly. Moving to Geelong and into Deakin College as a residential student has been a great opportunity to make new friends and witness life in a new environment. Living away from home has given me the opportunity to grow as a person and become independent in many aspects of my life. You begin to appreciate life and grow a new understanding of what it is like in the real world. Living in res is a fantastic experience and I recommend it highly for all students, particularly in the first year.
Deakin provides many opportunities for students to participate in sporting teams and in their clubs and societies, another great way to form friendships. The best part about studying at Deakin is the flexibility the University allows. With three trimesters, you are able to fast-track your degree, which is an added bonus. Given the option, you can travel during the European summer with no effect to your degree. I have found all the lecturers and tutors very helpful and the university resources of the highest quality.
To all commencing students, remember university is about finding yourself and focusing on your future. Your time at Deakin is guaranteed to provide both while you enjoy the time of your life. At first, it may seem scary and daunting – forget that and jump straight in. For me there woudl be no other life than uni life.
