Money

Banking

If you are leaving the country, you may want to consider closing your existing bank account, as you will still need to pay account keeping fees if it is kept open. Also, it is generally easier to deal with the banks from within Australia than from overseas.

Debts

Make sure you return all library books and settle any debts to the University before your departure. This includes library fines, outstanding tuition fees and any other fees you may have incurred. Your results will not be released nor your degree granted until all outstanding debts have been paid.

If you have any money issues, please speak to an International Student Adviser or discuss possible payment extensions with the department concerned before your departure.

Tax/work issues

If you have worked during your time in Australia, you would have had tax payments deducted from your pay as well as superannuation contributions made by your employer. As a temporary resident of Australia, you may be eligible to recover part or all of these payments/contributions upon leaving the country.
