Visa, passport and immigration

Visa and passport

Please make sure your visa and passport are both valid before departing the country.

For students who wish to remain in Australia to attend their graduation ceremony or who intend to travel around Australia after the completion of their studies, they will need to apply for a visitor/tourist visa.

Contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) for a checklist of the requirements you will need to meet in order to remain in Australia.

You may have to obtain a letter from the University stating your eligibility to graduate. (Refer to the information on completion/graduation letters on this website.)

Remember: you need to be enrolled to hold a valid student visa. Once you have completed your course, even if your visa runs for another semester, your student visa will no longer be valid.

Permanent residency - General Skilled Migration program

The General Skilled Migration program is for people who have skills in particular occupations that are in demand in Australia. To obtain permanent residency under this program, applicants will have to meet certain basic requirements and, for most visa categories, pass a points test.

For more information, please visit the DIAC website or contact them (Tel: 131 881).
