As an ISA I would encourage all students to get involved both academically and socially in their life at university. University life is not just about going to classes, preparing assignments and sitting exams! It is so much more enriching and rewarding than this! The satisfaction of discovering the nuances of language, the richness of a new culture and the delight of discovering new food is incalculable !
I really enjoy being an ISA and listening to different students journeys; how they discover Deakin; why they are studying their particular course and what they are getting out of their studies. In 2011, I went on an amazing trip overseas and found myself in Moscow, St Petersburg, Spain, France and Egypt. In Egypt I got caught up in the “Arab Spring”. It was an extraordinary time to be there and I learnt a lot from what I saw.
The opportunity to travel and visit different countries and learn more about people and their cultures is something I will always cherish and hope to continue for many years as it enriches my professional and personal life experiences.
