Security

Security officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are based on all Deakin campuses. These officers can be easily identified by their Deakin University and security badges on their uniforms.

If for whatever reason you require an escort while travelling within campus, security officers can assist you to your vehicle or to another building or location on campus. This is a free service that is available to all students throughout the year, and a security officer can be expected to be on hand to assist you within 10 minutes on weekdays or 30 minutes on weekends.

If you dial 222 from any internal extension, you will be connected directly to the security officer on duty on your campus. You can contact Security in this manner 24 hours a day. If you are not using an internal phone, please contact Security using one of the following numbers:

Safety tips

Do not leave your personal belongings unattended. If any of your belongings are stolen or if your safety is threatened in any way, please do not hesitate to contact Security.
Report any strange behaviour (either persons or vehicles) to security by ringing 222 on a Deakin Internal phone. Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you.
Always make sure you're within sight of your friends when you're enjoying a big night out. Let your friends know where you are at all times.
Do not drive if you've been drinking or accept a lift home from someone who has been drinking.
Make sure your vehicle is secure before leaving it. Do not leave any item that may be visible to passers-by and that could invite theft.
Check the rear seats of your vehicle at night before entering, and ensure that all doors aer locked once you have entered the vehicle.
Always carry your Deakin ID card with you at all times on campus.
