Scanning

There are scanners available in many of the Deakin computer labs. Instructions for using each scanner are on the lid and will work with all current models.

There are two types of scanners available. Flat-bed, which are the small flat scanners attached to several computers in the labs; and scan to email, which can only be done on the Lexmark MFPs (touch screen copiers).

Scanning to a file - Flat-bed scanners

There are flat-bed scanners in many computer labs which allow you to scan to a file. Follow the below instructions to scan and save your file to a USB flash drive or your Deakin home directory.

* Please note that scanners attached to the library kiosk computers have very limited saving options.

  1. Log in to the computer that is connected to the scanner.
  2. Click the Start menu at the bottom left corner of the screen.
  3. Select All Programs and locate Microsoft Office Tools menu.
  4. Select Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Photo Editor to open the program.
  5. Click the Scan button (fifth from the left) to open ScanGear CS.
  6. Place your item face down in the scanner.
  7. Click Preview and your item will be displayed on the screen with the dotted line around (this is an indication of the area you wanted to scan - you can adjust this if you only want to scan part of the item).
  8. Click Scan to scan the item.
  9. Your scanned item should now be displayed in Microsoft Photo Editor.
  10. Go to the File menu and save your item in JPEG format.

Scanning to email - Lexmark MFP's (touch screen)

A free scan to email function is available on the Lexmark copiers. This will send the image as an attachment to your Deakin email account only.

All scanning is subject to copyright regulations, see Why copyright matters for details.
