Students' gateway to Campus

Student Rover FAQs

1. What do Student Rovers do?

Student Rovers help other Deakin students with general IT and Library enquiries by conducting library tours during Orientation and providing assistance during the first few weeks of the academic year from the Library learning spaces and designated IT laboratories on each campus, throughout Trimesters 1 and 2.

Look out for the bright red t-shirt with 'I'm here to help' on the back.

2. Who can use the Student Rover service?

Any student who is on-campus and has an IT or Library related query about using or accessing these services.

If a Student Rover is not on duty right now, visit the Current Students Services and Facilities website and look under 'IT and Computer support' or the Library to find some help. Both of these sites have extensive information to help with your study at Deakin.

3. What can a Student Rover help me with?

Student Rovers are there to help you with basic information to get you started on your IT or Library journey at Deakin University. They can help you with finding out:

  • How to use the Library search system
  • How to log on to a computer lab workstation
  • How to find the 'help yourself' information on both the eSolutions and Library websites
  • How to work the printing system or the free 'scan to email' system.

Student Rovers can also help you find the answers to questions such as:

  • Where do I go to find information for myself?
  • Where is there a free computer in an IT lab?
  • Where are the computers in the Library?
  • How do I book a discussion room in the Library?
  • Where can I find eSolutions Help sheets and guides?
  • How do I contact Security?

4. What if a Student Rover doesn't have the answer?

Student Rovers will refer you on to the appropriate University staff or service when needed, which is also part of the service.

5. Can a Student Rover help me with my assignment?

Student Rovers are not able to help you with your assignment work - but there are expert staff in Student Life who can help you with assignment skills and preparation, or perhaps talk to your tutor or lecturer.
