Information for HDR candidates

General support services

Deakin wants you to succeed in your studies and therefore provides a wide range of support. You should use these resources.

Academic

Your main source of academic support will be your supervisor(s). In addition, the University provides a range of additional academic skills support through areas such as:

  • Institute of Research Training - training workshops on induction, completion of requirements to monitor progress, academic writing, presentations, networking, publishing, completing a thesis, and preparing for life after completion.
  • Division of Student Life - assistance with study skills and writing in English.

Conferences

Support to attend conferences is normally provided through Faculties or Schools. You should contact the HDR Coordinator in your area.

The University also offers support through the prestigious Neil Archbold Memorial Travel Award and Medal. Each year the two candidates with the best refereed journal paper receive travel funding.

Library

Deakin's library offers extensive support to research students, including the assistance of Liaison Librarians to assist you with finding materials relevant to your project.

Deakin eSolutions

The Deakin eSolutions (DeS) provides core information and communication technology (ICT) services and support to the Deakin University Community. Visit the HDR top tips webpage for loads of useful IT information for HDR students.

Division of Student Life

The Division of Student Life supports students in a number of ways, including:

Equity and Diversity Unit

Staff in the Equity and Diversity Unit can provide advice and information about concerns relating to equity, and resolving complaints about discrimination, harassment and bullying.

Division of Student Administration

The Division of Student Administration is the central administrative division of the University, with responsibility for admissions, enrolments and records, fees, assessments, graduations, and customer service.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
