Duke of Edinburgh's Award

What is it?

Watch a video of Deakin students completing their Award!

The Award is not a prize achieved in a competition - it's about your personal development. You get to design and plan your own program by choosing activities and setting goals that interest you in these 5 Sections:

  • Service (volunteering)
  • Physical Recreation (fitness)
  • Skill
  • Adventurous Journey
  • Residential Project

Find out more about the 5 sections

How do I do it?

  1. Discuss your activity ideas with a Dukes Coordinator at Jobshop/Careers and Employment
  2. Pay the registration fee to access your record book ($100 registration fee)
  3. Discuss and set goals with your Assessor for each activity
  4. Record your regular participation in each activity

To achieve the Award you must complete all requirements in each of the 5 Sections before your 25th birthday.

Can I do it?

You can sign up for the  Award at any time through out the year. Any student under 25** can do it!

Contact a Dukes Coordinator on your campus to discuss your situation.

Why do it?

The Award:

  • gives you real experiences, skills and achievements you can show on your resume
  • demonstrates your personal attributes to employers or scholarship bodies
  • officially recognises your involvements
  • is fun!

"It has provided me with a great deal of experience, and skills that I have been able to apply professionally, as well as personally." - Gold Awardee

**Note: A minimum of 18 months is required to complete the Gold level (if the silver level has not been completed). You cannot be more than 23 years and 6 months old when commencing the Gold level of the Award.
