Finding jobs

Most of us will search for jobs online, but you can further increase your chances of finding suitable job opportunities by using a variety of sources. To be successful in your search you will need to be persistent, determined and willing to put in a lot of energy and effort. Consider these options:

Visit Jobshop

All Deakin staff, current students and graduates are encouraged to visit the Jobshop website as part of your job search strategy. We list:

  • employment opportunities: casual, part-time, graduate, vacation, international, work experience and volunteer vacancies.
  • upcoming events: employer recruitment presentations, careers fairs, industry networking events and employment preparation workshops
  • career news items

To visit the Jobshop website, current students and staff login with your Deakin username and password, via the Careers and Employment index page.

Deakin graduates need to register or login (if you are already registered). If your registration does not work, please contact Jobshop with your full name and old Deakin student number.

Access 'hidden' jobs

You can access positions that may not have been advertised widely by contacting employers directly (cold calling) and using your networks.

Both can be used to:

  • organise an interview
  • research job related information (occupational interviewing)
  • develop more networking contacts
