What is it like to work as an analyst?

Contributed by Kristy McLean - Deloitte

Could you describe your average day?

An average day for me depends which client I am working on. For my current client, every day starts with a status and issue meeting with the team, so we know exactly what issues need to be resolved that day. I then get to work developing presentation packs and email and website communications. I tend to have a few meeting throughout the day, which may include more status updates, resolving issues, brainstorming ideas for communications or discussing our approach to activities. In the past I have also been responsible for developing and revising training materials, assisting to facilitate workshops, even completing systems testing.

How much exposure do you really have to clients?

I work with the client every day! In Consulting, we work on projects for the client, with the client. This means we are located within the clients' office, so we really become a member of the team. At the previous client I was working on, I was facilitating meetings with the client on a daily basis. For my current client (which is located in Sydney), I am involved in a number of weekly meetings.

What kind of training and development have you received?

As a graduate in Consulting, we undertook Consulting boot camp, which was a 3 day training session held in Melbourne. This provided me with training that was specific to the Consulting service line (e.g. SCQA) as well as providing me with training specific to Human Capital. I participated in the 2 day D.Academy orientation at Crown. In addition, I have attended further D.Academy training such as business writing, client service excellence and more.

Finally, I also get to undertake more training specific to Human Capital. I will soon be attending an Organisational Design boot camp which I'm really looking forward to.

What else have you been involved in at Deloitte?

I have been involved in graduate recruitment activities, played in a netball team in an industry competition, regularly play in an indoor soccer team made up of Deloitte colleagues and attended numerous social events such as lawn bowls, dinners and Christmas parties.
