Overseas marketing

Working in the marketing industry overseas has many positive implications for your CV and career advancement.

The biggest selling point about working in the marketing industry overseas, especially in highly competitive markets such as the UK and US, is that you can gain exposure to skills, tools and ideas that aren’t currently in Australia, which, upon returning, can give you a huge advantage over others in the field.

You will gain international marketing experience in different cultures, arming you with new insights into how to sell your product to different audiences.  The exposure to bigger markets and the opportunity to be part of an international team working on global brands will arm you with different skills to those needed when working on domesti c brands, giving you a new perspective on how to connect to Australian consumers.

On a personal level, taking the risk to leave your comfort zone and embark on the unknown makes you attractive to prospective employers. It frames you as a go-getter who is unafraid to take risks and think outside the box, something which is valuable in a creative and innovative industry such as marketing.

Before you embark, however, ensure you’re doing it for the right reasons. If you’re only going to experience different cultures and travel, then almost any job will do that for you. But if you want to go and have an experience of a lifetime, building and strengthening your skills andCV while you’re at it, then make sure find the right job for you.
